Aah, the seasonal time warp really hits once the clocks change, and the dark evenings, glowing pumpkins and tumbling leaves make it hard to ignore the sudden swoop into autumn. I've lit the stove in the workshop for the first time, though it hasn't been really cold, and the familiar smell of woodsmoke heralds the quieter, reflective months until spring.
The season influences how I feel and work; change happens more slowly, but ideas gather and I find the fading of colour to the monotone patterns of winter impresses itself more each day. Natural structures are revealed, gradually at first and then more starkly as daylight shortens.
It's enough - I'm glad I don't live further north, but I'd miss the visual reminders the changing seasons give us every year.
