How we’ve missed in-person shows! and what a boon to have fair organisers like Tutton & Young who reacted with lightning speed last year to drag some of us (ahem) into the 21st century and online selling. Just because people are cooped up at home doesn’t mean they want to be limited to offerings from Amazon…
Curated with the same care and flair as their annual flagship Marylebone event, MADEMAKERS online brings together some of the most creative, independent makers in one place on the web:
How it works: First, have a peep in advance to see who’s showing this month. Then, on Friday pour a glass of your favourite tipple, and ready yourself to visit the website fairly promptly to get a peek at your favourite makers’ newest work. Every discipline is represented, and it’s free to look… Each artist has their own gallery on the website, and all the links go live at 7pm. Lots of the pieces they are showing have been made especially for the event and editions are limited, so early birds will have the widest choice.
When you see something you like, and press the BUY button, you will be transferred to the maker’s own shop, and finish the transaction there. You can see their other work there too of course; it’s a chance to discover new makers and new favourites. Once you’ve made your final choice and gone through their payment process the artist will send your new treasure directly to you. Alongside the online sale is a programme of live studio tours and demonstrations; plenty to see.
Tutton and Young hold these online fairs monthly from now until Christmas, but the artists taking part change each time. This year we are expecting to return to No 1 Marylebone in November, to hold the physical show and the online show in tandem - watch this space!
